good vs. evil

Spirituality involves themes such as good and evil. This is comparative to the ideas Dillard brings up in nature- beauty and cruelty. Dillard is a pilgrim and her pilgrimage leads her to nature. According to dictionary.com, a pilgrim is a person who travels distance to a sacred place for religious devotion. In Dillard's case, she is searching for religious truths in nature. In nature she finds a spirituality in a sense. She relates images to the reader regarding vigorous details about the cruelty in nature. The same cruelty can be seen among the human race I believe. This can all stem to the good vs. evil theme in religion. All religions have similar beliefs regarding good and evil. The fact of the matter is that good, or beauty will always be in balance with bad, or cruelty. To understand either, one must appreciate both sides. Good can be found in evil just as beauty can be found in cruelty. By appreciating these ideas, one can hopefully find balance in life and this will lead to a spiritual truth and peace.
