Poetry is one way of expressing yourself. One of the poems I read is called Hay for Horses. It is about a sixty-eight year old man, who has to wake up at eight in the morning and stack the hay for the horses. Even though waking up early and doing manuel labor is hardwork, there is a reason he has continued doing it for most of his life. I think he enjoys taking care of his horses and it is worth it to him to take on the responsibilities that come with it. The atmosphere of working on a farm is very natural and wild. Taking care of horses or any animals like that is a dirty job and requires work. When he would break for lunch he would hear "grasshoopers crackling in the weeds". The author's lifestyle was surrounded by nature whether he is stacking hay for the horses or taking a lunch break and listening to the bugs outside.
Throughout the poems, each author has a different experience with nature. Some poems have a softer feel to it while others just tell it how it is. Some of the poems are more descriptive with nature while others are more subtle and explain how nature is involved. I think that the different authors of each poem and Dillard all use writing to enjoy nature and display their personal relationship with the environment. Each piece of writing is different and very unique to each author. The poems tend to be more about a specific experience and not as detailed while Dillard's book is full of her own experiences and goes into great detail, using a lot of imagery and sometimes does outside research on what she is interested in at the moment.
