cruelty

I'm not particularly affected by the theme of spirituality because I wouldn't say I am a spiritual person, but I like the theme of cruelty/pain. I don't feel like there is any cruelty in the book though. I think humans have placed cruelty in lieu of natural occurrences, at least when it comes to relationships in the wild. Obviously, a human being killing another human being is generally not acceptable in our modern life. Animals don't know what cruelty is because they live by instinct. There are animals that will build "death traps" for prey, but it's not cruel, it's a strategy. Animals will also play with their prey after they have injured or already killed it. Whether it is for fun or pride is unknown. Nature is a web of relationships. Some are good, some are bad. I think it's hard for humans to look at another species and not put thoughts and feelings into their heads. We give them human qualities. Understandably so, we have completely different brains. We think in words and sometimes pictures and they think by using pictures and their senses. Animals can be very mysterious, spontaneous and unpredictable creatures.

Cruelty is cruel because we, as humans, perceive it to be cruel.
