Poetry Response-"The Blessing"

The poem I read was a very descriptive poem, from a first person point of view talking about one's experience when viewing a pasture of beautiful horses. The poem describes the environment in a very beautiful and peaceful way. "Just off the highway to Rochester, Minnesota, Twilight bounds softly forth on the grass." Using this type of style gives the poem a very soft and delicate essence that fits well with the scenery that is described. The way in which the poem is written sounds almost like it is from someone who is very cautious. A connection between this poem and Annie DIllard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek is the way in which the environment is described. In both passages the environment is described in a very exact yet soft and beautiful way, from a very interested observer's point of view. Also, both works describe the environment in a very observational way where they notice not the obvious things, but notice the small things that give true character to the horses and the environment. "And the eyes of those two Indian ponies Darken with kindness." Normally something as small as the color of something's eyes wouldn't be noticed, or associated with emotion but by doing so, it gives the poem more of an intimate and personal manner. The author also uses similies to describe the feeling on the horse's ear, "And the light breeze moves me to caress her long ear That is delicate as the skin over a girl’s wrist." This, again, contributes to the intimate nature of the poem that the author is trying to convey between the people and the horses.
