I think that some authors' see beauty in the gruesome side of nature. Nature is filled with life and in life comes death. In nature life is a daily struggle to find food, shelter, and and avoid getting eaten long enough to find a mate and reproduce. If any organism fails at that they are going to probably suffer and die a terrible death. But in that death comes beauty because it was supposed to happen, it has happened for thousands of years and will continue to occur. Some author's only write about the happy, glorious side of nature en which they write about Bald Eagles, mountain views, and deers in morning dew, this of course is still apart of nature but it is only a glimpse in to the real aspect of nature. The author's that fully grasp nature will write about both the gruesome and the happy side of nature, then and only then will the author finally bring an understanding to nature. I think that the same question should be brought up in our society, why do news agencies and other sources only choose to report and display stories and reports on the horrible side of mankind. Stories that are always on the news are stories of rape, murder, robbery, death and disaster. There is almost never a report on the goodness of people or the kindness of strangers that occurs everyday. Instead, we focus on the death and destruction of people and property to keep us interested and occupied and even scared to do anything. Dillard fully grasped the idea of having both the happy serene side and the gruesome side in her writing. From her observations of the giant water bug devouring the frog to her debates on who or what created nature, the creator or evolution. Nature is not just a happy go lucky ride instead it is the wild west where organisms die everyday, but in that death comes life and nature is what life is all about.
I think that some authors choose to focus on the "beauty" of nature because beauty is one thing that the public can relate it. Beauty is stereotypically pleasing to the eye, and it's nice to examine in detail things that are "pretty". We, as people, try to surround ourselves with beauty to make our perception of the world seem nicer than it really is. People look at life itself as a thing of beauty, and everyone lives life so therefore everyone and everything living is beautiful in one way or another. Also everyone's perception of beauty is unique; someone may think a certain landscape is beautiful while someone else may think it's boring. Beauty comes in so many different forms and shapes and sizes and colors, that it is not hard to write about something beautiful in an elegant way. In reality, one can see almost anything as beautiful. On the other hand, I think that some writers choose to focus more on the gruesome aspects of nature because they tend to stick in one's mind easier. Gruesome images tend to be more graphic, extreme, and make a bigger impact, which may be one of the reasons writers choose to reference them. Along with beauty, there are many gruesome aspects of this world. Although these gruesome aspects tend to be looked at as negative, they are nonetheless a part of nature. Some writers view all aspects of nature, the good and the bad, as beautiful because they are natural.
Depending on the author and their views in the world will determine if they choose to write about only the beautiful or the gruesome. Dillard incorporates both in her writing. I have to agree with Dillard that in order to appreciate the beauty, you must see the gruesome as well. It relates to life. Life is beautiful, but the beauty is a combination of pretty and ugly things. Choosing to write about beauty or gruesomeness is totally reflective upon the individual author and the reader can sense their views about life as well. Perhaps when one writes about only the beautiful things, that individual writer either hasn't seen anything bad or maybe has been through a lot of bad things and writes about the beauty to escape. Writing about the gruesome side can go both ways as well. Whatever writing is compiled, it is reflections and almost escapes for writers. Thoughts, feelings, opinions are communicated to others through this writing.
Most authors seem to write about how they feel and there opinion on a certain topic. Some authors find beauty in nature and some find beauty in the grusome part of nature.Theres a big diffrence because the gruesome part of nature isnt recongnized or publicized so noone really gets to appreciate it.To me thats also thinkin outside the box because so many artist right about the same aspects of nature which is very cliche.Authors seem to pick a side on what they feel is beautiful because everyone have there own opinion.
